The Day of the Girl Summit

The International Day of the Girl Summit is an annual event celebrating girls' rights and potential. Coordinated by the Working Group on Girls (WGG), it is held in conjunction with the United Nations' International Day of the Girl Child, which takes place globally every October 11.The summit aims to highlight the unique challenges girls face while promoting empowerment and advocacy. Key components of the event and its surrounding celebrations include:

The Girls Speak Out: A flagship event where girl advocates and activists share their stories, present demands, and raise awareness directly at the United Nations and online.

Global Action & Advocacy: Leading up to the day, youth participate in digital advocacy campaigns and community events.

Local Summits: In addition to the UN-affiliated event, many cities and regions host their own local Day of the Girl summits featuring leadership, confidence-building, and skill-learning workshops (this is what our playbook is used for so girls can host their own local Girl Speak Outs)

Each year, WGG and sponsors collaborate on the 11 Days of Action virtual campaign and the Girls Speak Out event that connects girl activists and policymakers, to amplify the voices, needs, and desires of girls around the world!
