Thank You for Joining the
Girls Speak Out 2021!
On 11 October 2021, girl activists and girl advocates participated in a virtual roundtable that was designed to deliver unscripted and authentic dialogue between policy makers and girl leaders involved in addressing the digital divide. In a candid girl-led conversation among girl activists, UN agency representatives, and leaders, girls shared how they are impacted by the digital divide and asked candid questions of policy makers around resources they need to be able to fully engage in an ever-increasingly digital-dependent world.
This event was sponsored by the Working Group on Girls, the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations, the Permanent Mission of Peru to the United Nations, the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the United Nations, UN Women, UNICEF, and UNFPA.

As we prepare for the 2023 IDG Summit, we are reflecting on last year’s celebration for the 10th Anniversary!
On 11 October 2022, for the annual Day of the Girl Summit “Girls Speak Out” event, girl activists and girl advocates participated in a hybrid (in-person and virtual) town hall designed to deliver unscripted and authentic dialogue between policymakers, girl allies, and girl leaders working for the fulfillment of girls’ rights. In candid, girl-led conversations among girl activists and distinguished members of the UN community, girls shared their perspectives and experiences and had a dialogue with policymakers around progress for girls’ rights.
The discussion included video content from previous IDG Summits, as well as recorded video submissions from girls who could not attend, live to enhance the dialogue among participants. Distinguished members of the UN community and commitment makers aligned with Generation Equality responded to the monologues and questions put forth by girls and spoke to how the United Nations can commit to supporting girls’ call for accountability in ensuring girls’ rights.
The Working Group on Girls in partnership with the Member States Canada, Peru, and Turkey facilitated the solicitation and coordination of this IDG event in collaboration with Girl Advocates, who led the direction of the event format and informed any modifications needed for the event concept.
